Transformers 2 Movie: Well, I liked it...

Post by 80sJunkie »

Saw it last night at Alamo with a co-worker.

This is an unapologetic Michael Bay movie from end to end, which may or may not turn you on. If you have any interest in seeing this movie, you really should see it in the theater unless you have something like a 60" HD setup at home.

I loved the movie because I saw giant robots fighting for about half the movie. For another quarter of the movie, I saw a lot of US military weaponry in action. If there were more shots of cars, this would basically be a porn movie for gearheads. The last quarter of the movie was filled with frat boy humor and Megan Fox.

There are no deep themes, character development or significant myth-building onto the Transformers canon. This is a purposely unbalanced movie akin to being served a one-pound steak done medium rare with a one inch sprig of garnish and no sides.

Probably not for everyone, but if you know you're the kind of person who likes this sort of thing, you won't be disappointed.

I liked it too.

I have zero history with or affection for the Transformers comics or cartoons, as long as the movie had giant robots blowing stuff up and Megan Fox looking hot, I was happy....... for that expectation Michael Bay delivered admirably....

Not bad...

I saw it this evening.
Far more action filled than the first, with loads of mindless action. Great CGI!
But as with most big budget action movies nowadays , it tapers off towards the end. Hopefully they'll take a bit of a break before starting with number 3.

Not bad. A little long but I enjoyed it.

If it is supposed to be a trilogy, I do hope the third movie adds more plot and characterization, but it doesn't have to be anything real deep. What would be really cool for me is to see is a nod to the original G1 Transformers or the Dinobots.

I only liked the Transformers toys as a kid. The comics canon never interested me that much. Aside from big robots fighting, I couldn't tell you what the overall story arc was about.

Before T2, I saw previews for the GI Joe movie, which (aside from the Baroness) looks ridiculous. Where do the ability-enhancing suits come from? After seeing T2, I wondered if the US military shots in the movie would outdo the actual GI Joe movie.

After I saw the first Transformers movie I thought Bay had made a credible G.I. Joe movie within Transformers.

I enjoyed the second movie for what it was. Lots of explosions and robots fighting which was all I really needed from it.
