-----------------------

Gene is one of my all-time favorite artists. I'm bummed that I never had an opportunity to meet him at a con, but am tremendously honored that I was able to get a commission from him via mail a few years back.

Rest in peace, Gene! You are one of the all-time greats!

I'm sad to see that he has left us, but I'm glad that he is a peace and is no longer dealing with his pain.

Beautiful commission, Bob. You're lucky to have a piece of his work.

Though I liked his Daredevil work, his dark, flowing style fit perfectly with TOMB of DRACULA. Love when the artist and tone of the book fit perfectly together, and that was a blending made in heaven.

His Detective and Night Force work were also very nice to look at (as was most every thing he did, but again, just fitting mood with style here).

His other "hero" stuff, even though it was well done ... no ... it was masterfully done ... never hit me as much as the darker/mythical/edgy books did. It just fit him.

I just wish he would have done more on Dr. Strange. He always made the atmosphere so enjoyable on that title.

I loved pretty much everything he did, and I can't believe how he maintained such a high level of artistic quality for so long until recently, when I presume he was just physically unable to draw.

We've lost a few greats recently, but this one is particularly hard for me to accept. By all accounts he was a fine, fine gentleman.

I wish I could have met him.

RIP...

Met the man at the first NY comic con. Very pleasant, humble and a joy to talk to. He was my DareDevil artist. It was a pleasure sir.
