Marvel NOW ... relaunches

We can agree to disagree because given the context of the story and recent history the fight is reasonable. Every issue outside of the Bendis written parts has really worked for me so for me in this event.

9 titles are ending in Oct.:

According to Marvel’s October solicitations, which went live this morning, the month will mark the conclusions of Captain America, Fantastic Four, FF, Incredible Hulk, Invincible Iron Man, New Mutants, The Mighty Thor, Uncanny X-Men and X-Men Legacy.

“Marvel NOW! starts with the creators,” he explained to Comic Book Resources, “so don’t expect writer shake-ups across the line by the fourth or fifth issue, or half the titles to get cancelled and replaced by a new #1. We aren’t throwing $#!# at a wall, seeing what falls off and then replacing it with more $#!#. [Laughs] We’re building books we expect to last.”

They really should be more adult about talking to the media. Don't expect half the titles to be cancelled and replaced by new #1s ... even though this is the SECOND time Fantastic Four has a final issue in the past year and a half.....and Uncanny X-Men....oh and X-men Legacy has a strange past due to renamings ....

So yeah, they don't throw (bleep) at a wall to see what sticks, they know what sticks ... renaming/renumberings every few years, along with "world changing events" that don't matter after a year or so.

Just shut up and do what you need to do for sales, but don't blow smoke up our (bleep)

You know, it's kind of funny -- Marvel would actually have more of a leg to stand on than DC for a complete reboot from a story perspective. [Little white lie]: That's kind of the point of the Phoenix. Rebirth from the ashes. DC had to create this contrived time-travel stuff with Flash and Reverse Flash, but Marvel already has this mythology in place.

*I actually enjoyed Flashpoint and didn't mind the contrivance.

I didn't go to any Marvel panels (yeah, I know. big surprise....) so I'm not sure what they announced at the con.

The fact that they released the news a few days before con tells me that they really didn't see Con as the place to make a splash in announcing stuff about comics. They made movie announcements.

The Marvel booth at Con is a movie booth, IMO. But that's what the fans want and it's always crowded, so I can't say they are wrong in their decision.

I believe I just reread the description of Marvel's Point One initiative....

Well, offering single issue entries points failed miserably as actual jump-on points.

Maybe if they do it on a larger scale it'll actually provide points where people can get on board.

Personally, I find the Marvel teasers that were released this week to be lack luster. I don't have an issue with creative teams but Marvel is acting like we don't know which titles are going to be relaunch (i.e. Fantastic Four, Captain America, Iron Man).

I think Marvel is doing their best to kill as much interest I have with Marvel Now, as they are treating this no different from any other event that they have done in past by releasing:

1) Vague and non-effective teasers
2) An extra size one shot called Point One.
3) A weekly mini series
4) A sequel of AVX: VS

At this point, unless DCBS offers a bundle, I will pick and choose which new Marvel titles I will try. (I could careless for a new Deadpool or X-Men Legacy series.)

BTW, I have a feeling that after Amazing Spider-man #700, Marvel is going to relaunch the series as a new number 1.

Bundles may happen, but in very small increments since they're dribbling out the relaunches across several months, right? I don't think we'll get the "try everything for 6 months" like with the new 52. I'm thinking at best we get a #1s bundle each month.

I thought so too but for October there are no new bundles, even though there are a couple of first issues of the aftermath of AvX which leads into Marvel NOW. In addition, aren't the bundles dependent on the incentives that a publisher offer the retailer. I know that DC was offer incentives for a while on the new 52. It sounds to me that Marvel Now is more Marvel Same.

I want to make it clear that I am excited for some of these new Marvel Now titles, but I think my excitement would higher if Marvel marketed Marvel Now both better AND different from they have in the past.

Publisher incentives probably play into it for stuff that's 75% off, but I don't think it really does for a bundle that kicks up the normal 40% discount to 50%.

I am more excited for Marvel NOW with the "2nd" creative team announcements with the actual books and themes/concepts that they will be exploring. They should have just skipped those awful teasers last week and went straight to this.
