A lot of stores I've been to leave an empty board that says something along the lines of 'sorry, we're out. we can order it for you' in place of a book whenever they sell out.

Instead if you put a QR Code with it and the sign said something along the lines of:

'Wanna read this? More are on the way! Can't wait? Scan the QR below and read it right now on your phone or ipad'

Then co-brand it with comixology or something like that.

I just finished listening to the Comic Book Page Podcast: Publisher Spotlight #008: DC 2.0 Week 3 and I thought it was interesting that while the relaunch has increasing the excitement for DC comics for Bob, it hasn't for John, who is a hardcore DC fan.

As a hardcore DC fan, I would say that the new 52 has increased excitement for me on not just for DC comics, but comics in general. I would say that my excitement for the main Batman and Green Lantern did not change much, since these comic books are my favorite comics. However, up until Flashpoint, I felt that majority of the other DC titles did not "excite" me. Post-new DC 52, that feeling has changed.

That excitement has also spilled over to non-DC titles. I picked up The Last of the Greats because of the strength of Joshua Hale Fialkov's I, Vampire. It also has an opposite effect on me relative to other relaunches. I read all the first issues of the recent relaunch of Ultimate Comics. While I found the comics to be well written, they did not excite me to continue picking up the series, especially at $3.99 and Marvel's double-shipping strategy.

I also wanted to give props to Bob and John. When I listened to their reviews, they understand the difference between a bad comic book and a good comic book that is not to their liking. Unfortunately, there are some reviewers that fail to understand the difference and assume that if the comic book does not interest them, it must be a bad comic book.

Overall, I am happy with the new 52. My favorite line, besides the Batman line of books, are the Dark books. I am hoping that next year DC would release some sci-fi books featuring some of their well-known characters. While the line could be more diverse, I do think the DC line is more diverse than it has been years and relative to their main competitor, Marvel comics.

I think the problem was there was no upward mobility for John, who was reading/enjoying ALL of the DC super-heroes before Flashpoint. I think the only stuff he skipped was stuff like Jonah Hex & the Spirit & other things clearly not tied into the DCU. When you are getting 100% of the books before Flashpoint & you move to something less than 100%, you have the potential to feel less excited.

Personally, I had been dropping DC titles and was getting 50% of the line with some of the stuff left "on the fence". That meant that invigorating me on new stuff had a definite positive impact. I miss certain things from pre-Flashpoint (like Stephanie Brown Batgirl) but in aggregate the new stuff seems stronger to me.

As a minimal DC reader before FLASHPOINT, I wholeheartedly agree with you. And certainly see John reasoning as well. Sadly, I just don't think this coin will land on its side for most readers. But I hope a majority sticks around and a huge influx appears.

Okay, I broke down...I can't stand waiting for my monthly DCBS box to show up. I went to my LCS and picked up a few titles I'd heard good things about but hadn't ordered. My thoughts:

Catwoman - Okay, I wanted to see what all the hullabaloo was with this book. I actually enjoyed it. Great artwork and I think a fun buildup with her and Batman "gittin' it awn!" so to speak. Showed it to my wife explaining the controversy. She was more put off by the open leg crotch shot of the one woman in the bar scene than anything else people were screeching about. I'd pick this one up again.

Justice League International (1 and 2) - Good but not great. Fun to see Godiva as part of a team again but looks like they're just maker her a fangirl for Booster. Everyone else seems like they're bit players and really? With Batman in the room you're still going to try to play the leader? Nobody's going to listen to you. Probably going to pass on this one.

Animal Man (1 and 2) - the owner of the LCS said this one was his favorite so I gave it a shot. Not impressed with the artwork, but solid writing overall. I've just never been a big fan of Animal Man in general so I'll probably give this one a pass.

Legion of Super Heroes - Finally! A chance to jump on board the Legion train. Probably would have helped if I'd read Flashpoint but it wasn't too difficult to pick up what was going on here. Artwork was really good and I'm digging Dragonwing (she's now on my list of people I want to try to draw). This one's on the list.

Legion Lost - this one as well. I think it had the better storyline of the two Legion books. Definitely has me wanting to find out more about the virus.

Action Comics #2 (I liked this much more than the 1st issue. Not too happy about the short story & "internet articles" provided as the back-up in this $3.99 book. If this becomes a habit, I may drop the book.)

Batwing #2 (The almost complete lack of background detail in the art bugs me & stabbing the main character through the chest with a machete & having him recover so easily is just slippy writing.)

Second issue of Suicide Squad was just like to the first issue for me. Nothing creative or cool happens....then the end hooks me again.

This week the following books made the cut for me:

* Batgirl
* Demon Knights
* Green Lantern
* Legion Lost
* Superboy
* Batwoman
* Batman and Robin

Surprisingly, no marvel books came home with me. Only other book I got was the CBLDF benefit book.

And DC just announced that Justice League will have a back-up feature starting with issue 5, the Curse of Shazam, by Johns and Gary Frank. I think Justice League just became my youngest daughter favorite book.

Did they say anything about lessening the page count of the main JL story? If they did, is this a way to give Lee more time?

I assume it is because the book is $3.99 and showing art designs for the extra pages is going to wear thin on the readers.

Throwing the floor open to audience questions, Johns and Wayne told the first fan to the microphone that the higher-priced "Justice League" book would be getting a backup feature. "Starting in issue #5…Gary Frank and I are going to be doing a second story in every issue called ‘The Curse of Shazam," said Johns, adding, "Gary and I are going to be relaunching Shazam through the second story."
