Here's a run-up to another sales gimmick....

We don't have a precise issue or reasoning, but when asked if the Fantastic Four title would even exist this time next year given the "Three" arc and the "return" of Doom to the series, Brevoort simply said, "No... no there will not. I'll put that out there! No there will not." Brevoort refused to elaborate further.

In John's latest sales #s (on CBR at: http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page ... e&id=27979) FF #581 comes in at rank #47 with 35,505 sales.

So, if they "cancel" the book only to bring it back in a month renumbered as a #1, it will go from 35k to 50k+ in sales. Even if only for a month that's an extra $20k+ in Marvel's pocket.

Run it as a essentially a mini for a few months, then renumber again to 600. Boom! Another bump in sales.

In the end, by doing this manipulation Marvel can make $10s of thousands of extra $$.

Comics fans and retailers are so easy to manipulate it's almost comical.

Is it gimmicky and kind of annoying, yes, do I blame the suits for trying something to make more money, no. As long as they continue to tell good stories I'm along for the ride. IMO they have and they have not.

I wonder if "ending" the FF is why the artist Dale Eaglesham jumped off for Super Soldier?

I doubt it since Super Soldier was a series guaranteed to end since it is a mini. I'm guessing here but FF is a monthly book and Eaglesham was hitting about every other issue. He might be better as a special projects guys rather than try to hit the monthly schedule.

Hey, slap a beard on Reed Richards and it'll be the late-90's all over again!

Doubt it. Nothing's changing on FF. Whatever machinations they do, no later than 2 or 3 years (more likely 1 year), everything will be back the way it was, w/the same 4 main characters.

Geez it sucks to be a jaded fan sometimes! lol
