Previews Spotlight #018 (Apr): Fri Apr 10th: 5pm pacific

Post by BobBretall »

The new Previews should hits the stands on Wed April 1st.
The April Previews call will be on Friday April 10th at 5pm Pacific / 6pm Mountain / 7pm Central / 8pm Eastern.

As always, get on Skype around the start time (or join any time after, the call can run 4 hours of rousing comics chat) and look for thejohnmayo message him to get joined into the call.

Submissions for the Previews Spotlight #018 show should be in by the end of Friday April 10th (PLEASE NOTE: Deadline has been moved up to Friday).

Of course you can start sending in submissions as soon as you have them done. Sending them in early is appreciated as it give us more time to organized the clips and plan out the episode.

Remember: We encourage anyone to send in a short audio clip where they can talk about any book that's coming out in the upcoming Previews that they are really excited about. The email address to send the clips to is TheGuys@ComicBookPage.com. (Some people were only send them to either just John or just Bob and we both need to get them to prepare to recording the episode. By using TheGuys email address, the email goes to both Bob and John.)

PLEASE: Each featured item should be in a separate audio file.

We would also appreciate it if you put the page number followed by the full name of the item in the filename. If you don't know the page number, that is fine. Just leave it off. But having the full name of the item the clip is for makes it much easier for us to organize the files and prepare for recording the episode.

Tips on how to record a clip can be found here.

Call dibs on reviewing any particular comic on this thread.

I'm definitely getting:

EERIE ARCHIVES VOLUME 2
ABSOLUTE JUSTICE HC

... and still deciding on ASTONISHING X-MEN BY JOSS WHEDON & JOHN CASSADAY OMNIBUS HC.

I heard bad reviews about the quality of Marvel Omnibus ... they use glue binding which falls apart easily.

I have 8 different Marvel Omnibii and have not seen this problem.

The bounding seems decent/secure. I just opened my Tomb of Dracula Omnibus and tugged on some pages and examined it, it seems fine to me.

Not sure who is complaining, but maybe they're reading in a steamy room or something ;)

Thanks Bob! I'll start with couple of top rated Marvel Omnibii:

-Amazing Spider-Man Omnibus Volume 1 HC Variant by Steve Ditko and Stan Lee
-Daredevil by Frank Miller & Klaus Janson Omnibus

Turns out that both these books are out of print:

-Amazing Spider-Man Omnibus Volume 1 HC Variant by Steve Ditko and Stan Lee
-Daredevil by Frank Miller & Klaus Janson Omnibus

My retailer said that regular edition of Amazing Spider-Man Omnibus is still available, but I read somewhere that it has a glue binding defect and they corrected this in the variant edition.

Bob, do you have the Amazing Spider-Man Ombnibus? regular or variant? If you do ... how's the binding on this one?

Thanks!

I have the variant edition on all my Omnibii. Generally I have the comics in regular form (or in Masterworks), so my theory is that I get a new cover out of the deal by getting the variant edition.

As I said before, I have never heard this allegation about the binding being weak. I just sent an e-mail over to Chris Marshall at the http://www.collectedcomicslibrary.com/ site. He's the master of all things collected, and should have heard about it if there is really a defect in the omnibus binding.

I'll post his reply back here.

How do you feel about Absolute Ronin? I'm still undecided on this one. It got mixed reviews.

I was not particularly enthusiastic about Ronin when it first came out in single issues"back in the day", so I had no desire to get an "Absolute" version.

Just my personal opinion, but I don't think Ronin is an "Absolute"-worthy series.

If you're interested, you can get the first 5 (of the 6 issues) of Ronin on MyComicShop for about $7 for all 5:

Thanks for the suggestion Bob! Other than Conan and Walking Dead floppies, I've decided to stick with the "Big Books (Absolute/Omni/Library Editions) and a few select TPB/HC -- I have a bad habit of piling up tons of unread floppies so I decided to fix this once and for all by just waiting for the Big ones :)

I figure that if the book is Absolute worthy then it must be a good read ... but it turned out that's not always the case ... so I'll make sure to ask you first when I have doubts.

By the way, are you able to read all your monthlies? Or do you buy some of them for other purposes other than reading (e.g. investment)?
