Marvel: Sick of waiting for Millar/McNiven....

Post by BobBretall »

Last Month's solicit for Wolverine #72 advertised it as the penultimate part 7 of 8 of the "Old Man Logan" storyline.

Looks like Marvel got sick of only being able to publish one issue of it's cash cow Wolverine series every 3 months or so........ Looks like we'll get the conclusion in (maybe) issue #75.
Marvel May solicits wrote:WOLVERINE #73 & #74
Written by Jason Aaron, art and covers by Adam Kubert and Tommy Lee Edwards, #73 variant by Marko Djurdjevic.

Two stories over two issues! Each tale begins in Wolverine #73 and concludes in #74.

"A Day in the Life." In a story by Aaron and Kubert, experience a day in the life for America's favorite mutant -- a day packed with action, women, villains, costume changes and beer. Ever wonder why Logan keeps himself so busy these days? The answer lies within.

"One Percenter." Meanwhile, in a story by Way and Edwards and a prequel to Dark Wolverine, Logan wants to get the hell out of New York, and he's in no hurry to get back to San Francisco, either. So he gets on a motorcycle and takes the long way home. But home for Logan isn't in a secret underground headquarters -- it's in a fight, with his hands wrapped around the neck of somebody who's got it coming.

32 pages, $2.99.

Personally, I'm skipping these 2 issues. I'll pick up part 8 of "Old Man Logan" whenever it comes out.....

I read that but I didn't even think about it. I guess I firgured the last issue had already been offered.

I heard that during NYCC they said the final issue would be double sized one. Guess McNiven needs the time to draw it. Just another reason why it should have been a mini series and not in the main title.

Does this mean part 8 of "Old Man Logan" will be saved for issue #75? WTD!!

Wolverine may be a cash cow for Marvel, but this does not mean they get MY cash. I jumped on for Millar/McNiven' Wolverine Story and will jump off when they are done...without issue #72 & 73. Those issues will be filler for the overpriced Ominbus Collection.

I'm assuming #75 will be an "Extra size" (and extra price) senses-shattering anniversary issue conclusion to the Old Man Logan storyline......

If this is the case and #75 will conclude the Old Man Logan run, this should go under "When Editor's Don't Do Their Job..."

On another note: I recently noticed an advertisement for Wolverin and his Amazing Friends (new cartoon?) inside the front cover of a Marvel comic. It got me to thinking when will Marvel use the success of their movies to cross promote their books.

If I can open up their book and see a new cartoon, why can't I watch their cartoon and find out where to buy the books?

Reminds me of the Tim Sale/Darwyn Cooke Superman Conf. run a yr or two ago. They did 1-5 and then pt 6 came out in like issue 11 or something.

The ad is for the Wolverine and the X-Men cartoon. The reason they can't have commercials during the cartoon for the comic goes back to the laws geared towards protecting children (and parents) from ads featuring the characters from the show during the show. The goal was to prevent GI Joe toys from being advertised during GI Joe, etc.

Still, there are no such laws prohibiting such features and commercials from being included with the DVDs...

They did announce this at NYCC. They will release the last part as a double-sized special. I think they already had long-term plans after the Old Man Logan arc related to Dark Reign, so that is probably why they moved the last part to a double-sized issue.

As a regular reader of Wolverine since volume 2 started, this doesn't bother me. Besides we get Jason Aaron and Adam Kubert. That is totally an awesome creative team.

It would be great if he was doing the whole thing, but Daniel Way is writing half the issue, and while some may love him, I have issues with his writing.....

Wow...I totally didn't put two and two together. When I saw these solicits, it didn't register that Old Man Logan hadn't already been fully solicited. While I agree it's awkward to have these issues before the end of the OML arc, I don't mind a) two issues in a month and b) Kubert and Tommy Lee Edwards art!

I can't wait to see the people who bash DC for doing this praise Marvel for letting the book get published!

I, for one, think it's extremely poor form to do this (inserting fill-ins and huge delays into the middle of a story) whether you are Marvel or DC. This is regardless of slapping Jason Aaron, Kubert, et al on the fill-in issues.

This is also seems to be a reason why you never want to put Steve McNiven on a "series within a series", Old Man Logan should have been a mini disconnected from the main Wolverine series where they would not have had to publish fill-ins just to get the Wolverine series out in stores after the long waits for the next issue.

PLUS, did no one "do the math" and figure out that part 8 of 8 would come out in issue #73 instead of #75 when they started the series in #66?? Want to end on a BIG NOTE in the #75 anniversary? Start in #68!

I don't disagree with you. I think you're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't. Personally, I'd rather see the book come out rather than being held up. The Civil War delays killed my interest in a lot of books that still hasn't rekindled. Out of sight, out of mind. I don't see why they didn't do Old Man Logan as a mini in the first place as I don't see at all how it relates to the series overall narrative.

I got hooked on this story but I really do not care for Wolverine outside of the X-Men titles. It usually takes some heavy recommendations for me to even consider buying a Wolverine book. In fact the last Logan story I bought was "Enemy of the State" and I only started buying that because JR.JR was doing the art. So I have no interest in picking up those "filler" issues.
