Re: Pull List - Whatchya Readin This Week?
This thread seems like the right place to share what I’ve decided to do with some of my free time during the covid 19 lockdown (I’m a high school teacher). I just started an Instagram called comicbackissues where I post 4 pages/panels of back issues (new to me) I’ve just finished reading.
https://www.instagram.com/p/B_kvGJuHQG7 ... 39k6nphbeo
While I still read new comics, I’m someone who actually prefers pre-2000s superhero books. I cut my teeth on late 80s superheroes after all! I’ve built a massive back issue collection of dozens of titles from the early 70s up thru the late 90s.NO DIGITAL and NO COLLECTIONS!!! Like any respectable collector, I only go for first prints of single issues, so it takes years to find everything at a reasonable price. For DC, I focused on pre-Crisis Batman and post-Crisis everything else. For Marvel I’ve focused on the most celebrated runs from the bronze age up to 2000. I’ve recently finished the following runs: Miller’s Daredevil, Alan Moore’s Swamp Thing, Claremont and Byrne’s X-men, and Miracleman (Marvelman). It usually takes me about 1-2 years to make it theough that many back issues. I’m still piecing together full runs of early 70s ‘Creature of the Night’ era Batman - pre-Crisis, Michilleni/Layton Iron Man, Greunwald Cap, Dematteis/Zeck Cap, Gaiman sandman, post Roy Thomas - Onslaught era Avengers, and Byrne’s FF. They’re next on my back issue dive!
I’m cureently reading and will be posting summaries and reactions to the following runs on my Instagram: mid 80s X-men, Hulk, and Daredevil; late 80s Ghost Rider, Punisher, Spider-man, Wonder Woman, Captain Atom, Flash, Green Arrow, Justice League, Swamp Thing, and Question; early 90s Superman; late 90s Captain America, Kazar and Iron Man; and early 2000s Fantastic Four.
If you’re a back issue fan, please check it out! I’m having a blast sharing my love for old comics!!!

Re: Pull List - Whatchya Readin This Week?
I read about 30 titles currently. I used to read about 50, but the big 2 have disappointed me on an alternating schedule for the past 10 years, so I dropped several books. What are your favorite books right now? I enjoy Immortal Hulk, X-men, X-force, DD, Venom, Batman’s Grave, Shazam, and GL.
Re: Pull List - Whatchya Readin This Week?
Most of what I read now (pre-corona time) are new comics, or scifi/fantasy books if I have time. I also do some gaming, have lots games in the queue for after I finish football manager 2013
(you dont finish football manager, either you continue for ever or you get fired and start anew... poor horizon zero dawn, ac:odyssey, me-andromeda, last of us, beyond two souls, detroit become human and on and on and on....)
However since the new comic pipeline is broken Ive been buying some collected packages of older comics and of these I recently read through, Elektra:the Hand (2004) #1-5 (mini) and Elektra vol.2 (2001) #1-10. The mini was ok, recounting the origin of the japanese ninja organisation, not much Elektra though. The Marvel Knights Elektra i enjoyed. Early Bendis work for marvel even if he only wrote the first 6 issues according to wiki, but good talky assassin stuff even if very little talking is done by Elektra.
Currently reading Mister Miracle tpb by Tom King and having mixed feelings. Its very heavy and a chore to read even if i like the story. I just cant seem to focus on it for very long periods of time and just read a few pages from time to time only to set it aside for days until continuing. Just by going on that its probably not going to rate high for me.

Re: Pull List - Whatchya Readin This Week?
Marvel certainly deserve harsh words for continuing to relaunch titles with no need... However I have now read the first 4 issues of the new Star Wars volume and I cant help loving it, d*mn it... Luke, Leia and Lando look to be something special to follow from the time of empire strikes back on their way to Jabba´s palace in RotJ.

Finally I made it through to the end yesterday! Its a nice story, dont really know what to think about the end, did he escape, what was he in that case supposed to be escaping from. Kind of also thinking this is not in main dc universe since darkseid is off playing with justice league odyssey (no spoiler he is on the covers from the beginning) now, but who knows with continuity... Probably the ending didnt win me over enough after enduring 12 tragic and sad issues but even before that there was something missing. The last few issues did spin up a little so its not bad, just kinda meh about how it ended.

Re: Pull List - Whatchya Readin This Week?
supposedly, it can all be explained with "hypertime" that's how batman can do his thing and be in the justice league and outsiders and 10 other books at the same timeNiklasJ wrote: ↑Mon May 11, 2020 1:29 am POSSIBLY SPOILER WARNING FOR MR MIRACLE BY TOM KING

Re: Pull List - Whatchya Readin This Week?
Its amazing what Batman can do without superpowers but i guess same would apply to spiderman and wolverine
So latest in old and new reading.
The Last God #1-#6
Fun fantasy adventure to read even if the story is grim, we get to follow two adventures separated by time about the same quest. And many characters appear in both timelines and i like how the years is shown to really have affected and changed them. Also something foul is afoot to no ones surprise.
Something for a spotlight podcast i think. It is certainly an easier read than the chore of the Doomsday Clock.
District X #1-#6
Another of the marvel knights books, this one shows off Bishop of the Xmen at his prime (lets forget about the heel turn...) working with law enforcement in mutant town. Nice to go back in the lcs bin and finding such gems, very happy to read, great stuff

Re: Pull List - Whatchya Readin This Week?
By reading my pile of comics and from time to time adding collection of old comics to the pile I have eventually come to the gem at the bottom, the Amazing SpiderMan #39-#42. The star of the book now is JJJ the podcaster and it is such a delight for this veteran spideyreader.
If the comicslist is to believed there will eventually be comics again, maybe they will be able to deliver this week...

This pandemic might be able to do what I have been unable to and cut down my pull list for me if marvel are going to put out more titles to digital only where I wont join. (no tablet to read on)
