Re: Weekly Comic Spotlight
John and I try to review a variety of titles each week and mix it up frequently but you can always suggest titles you would like us to review and we will do our best to fit them in a future episode-
DC and Marvel are a lot easier to fit in than the Indy category but just let us know.

I'm hoping you guys review The Old Guard #1 by Greg Rucka from Image Comics coming out February 22. Sex Criminals #16 coming out February 15 start of a new story arc and has been gone for awhile would love to hear your take. From DC I'm hoping you review Wildstorm #1 by Warren Ellis.drew wrote:John and I try to review a variety of titles each week and mix it up frequently but you can always suggest titles you would like us to review and we will do our best to fit them in a future episode-

Re: Weekly Comic Spotlight
John I'm really enjoying Justice League vs Suicide Squad as well. I was worried after the not so great Monster Men but it has exceeded my expectations. I enjoyed the backstory in Suicide Squad #9 really looking forward to seeing how this ends setting up the new JLA. Also enjoyed the introduction of Killer Frost into the group. Good stuff

Re: Weekly Comic Spotlight
Hi John and Drew,
I read issue #1 of Mighty Captain Marvel and walked away with a similar feeling. Carol's status quo did not dramatically change, so why the new number one? The advertising for this title felt similar to what was used for Brian Reed's Ms. Marvel (Carol Danvers) series post House of M. Reed's Ms. Marvel was the first solo ongoing title for Carol in years. Mighty Captain Marvel felt like a xerox of a xerox because of the constant renumbering.
Also, I look forward to hearing about John's comic list purge. Will this be similar to the DC Implosion of the late 1970s?

Not sure. I've identified the need to cut back and I've been rating everything I've read since the start of 2014. I'm leaning towards a data driven approach but haven't given it a ton of thought yet. Odds are it will be a slow trimming of titles versus a sudden slashing of titles.doctormo wrote:Also, I look forward to hearing about John's comic list purge. Re: Weekly Comic Spotlight
The next book I'm looking forward to is definitely The Wild Storm #1 by Warren Ellis and Jon Davis-Hunt.
Hope to get a review from the guys on it!

I recall John discussing DC's multiple Lobos when Justice League vs. Suicide Squad was reviewed on the podcast. Apparently there has been a new wrinkle in the unfolding saga - http://www.cbr.com/dc-comics-has-solved ... m-for-now/.

Re: Weekly Comic Spotlight
Hi guys, in regards to your discussion about digital comics and Marvel Unlimited in this week's Spotlight I would like to share my recent experience with Marvel. Last week when I opened the MU app to read some comics I could not log in. I discovered that Marvel has updated the MU app and it no longer worked on any Android devices that ran less than Android 4.4+. So I can no longer read Marvel comics on my Asus Transformer tablet or my Kindle Fire. Apparently they aren't as concerned with digital sales as I would have thought. I'm in no hurry to buy a new tablet and since I'm already six months behind I think I'll be getting my Marvel fix through the library for awhile.

Chris, ah the library for your Marvel comics! Step into the light my friend. Library is like heaven for comics. The only downside is the library app, Hoopla, has no Marvel on it. Marvel does not want to put their comics in an app that the library made? Come on Marvel!
Re: Weekly Comic Spotlight
that absolutely stinks - kindle (and Android) compatibility should be an absolute must with all digital comics...still waiting on that transformative amazon comic reader...ChrisMyers wrote:Hi guys, in regards to your discussion about digital comics and Marvel Unlimited in this week's Spotlight I would like to share my recent experience with Marvel. Re: Weekly Comic Spotlight
Good to hear Bullseye #1 was a fun read. I will be reading it in six months when it appears on Marvel Unlimited. There's just no way I could justify spending $15-20 per miniseries anymore. I'm dropping all DC titles in the favor of reading trades through my local library because even at a 2.99 price point they are shipping twice monthly so you're spending $6 a month to keep up on a title and issues can pile up so quick. Really hoping DC sees the wisdom in offering a DC Unlimited app soon for $6 a month access to their entire back catalog six months behind the current titles would be great. It hasn't killed Marvels print sales and it wouldn't kill DC print sales either. All of my indie titles will remain on my pull list as most libraries do not carry those titles and honestly I like to support the little publishers trying to make inroads into the comic industry.
Re: Weekly Comic Spotlight
I must be spoiled up here in the Seattle area, because I don't have an issue usually with indie books in my library. They don't get them in on release date, but most appear in the library at some point. All of my indie titles will remain on my pull list as most libraries do not carry those titles and honestly I like to support the little publishers trying to make inroads into the comic industry.

Re: Weekly Comic Spotlight
Man that's awesome. Here in KC I usually have to put in an interlibrary loan request which can take some time and depending on how many copies are out there can be rejected by the libraries who do have them or when you do get the volume only allow you a two week or less borrowing time. A lot of the Image titles they will order the first volume and unless it's a wildly popular title like Saga they don't get the succeeding volumes. I would imagine libraries buying trends are similar to the trends John talks about on the Mayo Reports. Almost all Marvel/DC titles some Image, and a small percentage the rest of the publishers. Except Hellboy. At my libraries no matter what if has anything to do with Hellboy they will have it. It would be cool if there was Library buying data for John to do a show on it would be a fun listenPerseus wrote:I must be spoiled up here in the Seattle area, because I don't have an issue usually with indie books in my library. Re: Weekly Comic Spotlight
I would be happy to do such an episode if the data were available. Or, if there is a librarian who is championing comics/trades in libraries, I'd be happy to have that person on as a guest to help support getting more comics/trades into libraries.MichaelCastle wrote:It would be cool if there was Library buying data for John to do a show on it would be a fun listen
