Weekly Comics Spotlight #059
Guys,
Great episode. For some reason it was one of my favorites in a long-time. I few comments:
I do like how you guys review a book and give constructive criticism without ruining the book for those who haven't read the book yet. Case in point, Fables #78. I haven't read the issue yet because I read Fables in trade, but I was able to listen to your review without feeling that both this issue and the ending of the previous arc has been ruining by it. Kudos on that front.
Daredevil, we talked about if this title or Captain America is the best Marvel title a few days ago on the call. I think I said Captain America. I think I want to revised my answer to "whichever one I just read'. Both books are great and especially Daredevil, considering how consistent it has been since the relaunch by Kevin Smith and company. I agree with John when I said that I wasn't excited about Lady Bullseye when they first announced her, but I really loved the first chapter of the arc. The guest penciler on the book was fantastic. He style was similar to Michael Lark but different enough where I noticed it. It helps to have the same inker His characters look a little more attractive, especially the female characters. He could be a great artist on Iron Fist.
Project Superpowers - I like the series, but haven't pre-ordered any of the new books yet. I was planning on getting them in trades going forward because of the multiple titles and covers. However, now that I have reduced my monthly pull list, I might reconsider.

I am really upset about them stopping Black Panther. It is one of my top ten books and can't believe they just stopped soliciting it.

Thanks. It is very important to me that our podcast not replace the reading experience. I want to be encouraging people to read the comics that they'll enjoy the most and not to give them a way to keep up on those comics without having to buy them and read them.HassanT wrote:Guys,

I'm really enjoying the Project Superpowers comics and look forward to them expanding that universe into a few ongoing titles. Hopefully they'll keep it at only a few titles as I'd hate to see them expand the line too far.HassanT wrote: Daredevil, we talked about if this title or Captain America is the best Marvel title a few days ago on the call. The thing I am wondering about Brubaker is currently he is pretty much doing his own thing in the Marvel Universe and it really doesn't have much to do with the events running through the universe. This is especially true in Daredevil where the Captain America character has a brief tie-in into Civil War and again Secret Invasion.
If speculation becomes truth in that the Skrulls establish a beachhead on Earth. Will people still enjoy/tolerate that Captain America and Daredevil continue their stories in Brubaker's corner of the universe where they are barely interact with the continuity of the Marvel Universe?

Good question. I suspect that those not in favor of huge line wide stories will be very happy with titles that ignore it while other might feel that it puts those titles too far out of step with the rest of the Marvel Universe. As long as the stories are still great, I doubt too many people will be too upset.Skyhawke wrote:The thing I am wondering about Brubaker is currently he is pretty much doing his own thing in the Marvel Universe and it really doesn't have much to do with the events running through the universe. I was a bit annoyed that they have announced 3 spin-offs from Project Superpowers, which leads to a line of 4 books. However, if they spaced the books so that we don't get four books in the same month, it might not be bad.johnmayo wrote: I'm really enjoying the Project Superpowers comics and look forward to them expanding that universe into a few ongoing titles. I'd be fine with a book a week. But any more than that seems like too much.HassanT wrote:I was a bit annoyed that they have announced 3 spin-offs from Project Superpowers, which leads to a line of 4 books. Yeah. I just did the math, in terms of both cost and timing. I don't have the patience to wait a lot for the hardcover for this type of story. So, it is a good thing I shrunk my list, because I just sent an e-mail to DCBS to add these books to my listjohnmayo wrote:I'd be fine with a book a week. In the news from a recent con (Baltimore, maybe?) an editor at Marvel said the book is on a brief hiatus, but that it will be back with Hudlin still writing.comicm wrote:I am really upset about them stopping Black Panther.
