Back Issue Spotlight #11

Post by Koete »

I'm with Bob, Geoff Johns is my favorite current comics writer. I'm not a big Superman fan, but I loved this storyarc. My Legion knowledge is very limited, but that didn't take away from my enjoyment at all. I think my favorite sequence in the arc was the beginning of 861 that culminated in the splash page of Brainiac 5 sporting that goofy grin. After reading it, I definately had the urge to hunt down some Legion. Are there any runs similar to their portrayl in here? As I got this in HC, I'm waiting for HC for the Brainiac arc and Legion of 3 Worlds and can't wait to read them.

As far as the Back Issue Spotlights, I kinda prefer them to focus on older back issues, but if something recent strikes you guys' fancy, I say talk about it. I also say go and do some episodes on uncollected issues you guys want to discuss. Just because it hasn't been collected doesn't mean you guys should pass up on something you both really enjoy and want to discuss.

I'm not a big Superman fan either, even though I love Supergirl. But, I love Johns' Action and now I'm reading Robinson's Superman. I definitely am getting this trade to read Superman and the Legion.

I'm with Koete on this one. Covering some newer material is nice and I look forward to more episodes on current books. But I feel that a lot of the silver and bronze age stuff does not get much coverage from other podcasts. Given that you two own so much stuff from this time period, I say utilize it! I would go so far as to actively encourage you to cover books that have not been reprinted. Listening to you talk about Dial H for Hero will probably be my only exposure to this book, given my meager budget for back issues.

Thanks, Bob and John, for hashing out this great storyline! What's amazing is it manages to be a very strong Superman story despite the Legionnaires and their mythos really filling up the panels.

As a correction (not egregious or anything), but I think Color Kid and Rainbow Girl are separate people. I remember her having her own Who's Who in the Legion entry, at least. And I think that gender reversal virus Color Kid caught in the classic Subs special was said to be temporary. Too funny.

Good catch! A web search reveals that Rainbow Girl was indeed her own person:

Interesting. I'm not sure I've read the story that Rainbow Girl was in. Great catch.
