M-Theory Cancelled by Shadowline

Post by Lobo »

Bob says: I split this off from being on the "Dead Men Tell No Tales" thread because I thought it was important enough to warrant it's own thread.
Perseus wrote:I'll be getting this one and also Kid Houdini !! Thanks to Bob and John, I'm now getting into Dwight Macpherson's books like the new M Theory coming out by Image.

Thanks Bob and John!
From: http://www.kris-korner.com/forum/index.php?topic=1440.0
Kris Simon, Shadowline Editor: Hey everyone...this wasn't intentionally being kept from everyone, we just had no clue it existed until a forum member let us know!

To answer the questions that have been PM'd and e-mailed to me, and to end speculation, Dwight's books were canceled due to low sales. We had originally discussed and agreed to pushing through with M-Theory and publishing the books at a loss, but that never helps anyone.

Dwight decided to pursue other options and bring his properties to a smaller digital publisher, which is totally his right as a creator. In light of that, his board was removed, as it's not typically in a publisher's best interest to advertise another publisher. Wink We've removed all topics that pertain to the books, which I hope is understandable.

His new forum can be found at: http://chimaerastudios.freeforums.org/d ... n-f13.html

I'll keep this thread up for a little bit so everyone has a chance to read it, and then I'll be taking it down.

Oh, and Poo 2 will be coming out as planned next week...

... M-Theory #1 will still be coming out, it was approved at the printers before we got the numbers in. However, there will be no 2 or 3 from us (which is why I thought it kinda pointless to mention in my first post).
Two days earlier she stated...

From: http://www.kris-korner.com/forum/index. ... 3#msg34553
Kris Simon, Shadowline Editor: Sales or lack thereof will always be the determining factor on whether or not a book is canceled!
I'm inclined to believe that sales numbers were not the deciding factor in what's happened, though the end result is the same.

From: http://chimaerastudios.freeforums.org/h ... 5.html#768
Dwight L. MacPherson: Here are the publishing dates for M-Theory (on Wowio.com):

Issue 1- September 10th

Issue 2- October 8th

Issue 3- November 12th.

More news about the single issues coming very soon. Promise.
It appears that M Theory and Dwight's new superhero title, Interagents, will be available first on Wowio, then as single issues (via Print On Demand), then as trades distributed through Diamond Books.

Wait'll you see the art on Interagents#1!

Thanks for the update! Even though I'm kinda saddened to see the single issues cancelled. I hope to see em out there somewhere in issue form. I'll read em on wowio however.

Chimera will be selling single issues via print on demand on their website, and the trades will be available through Diamond.

Wow! This really sucks, especially Shadowline zapping his forum because they don't want to "promote another publisher"....

What a bummer. I was really looking forward to M-Theory. At least we'll still be able to read the issues on Wowio, but still...

Hey Zack, maybe you can mention to Cameron to credit M-Theory #2 for folks who ordered it.

Also, M-Theory #3 was in the on-line solicits from Shadowline, and may be already in the printed Previews catalog. I'd suggest also that Cameron just skip listing M-Theory #3 on the web-site & in the Excel so people do not bother ordering a book that has been aborted and will just need to be credited down the line.

Okay, I'm getting confused on the current status of M-Theory.

I was just on the Diamond website and saw the following (which was posted today):
Image/Shadowline Return to Pulp Era with M-Theory #1

In M-Theory #1 (JUL082223D), Image Comics/Shadowline take science fiction back to its pulp roots for the first chapter of a three-issue limited series available for order now from Diamond!

Written by Dwight L. MacPherson & Bruce Brown with art by Mike Barentine, the new series promises a return to the robots, spacemen and dames of the early years! The action-packed romp will explore the brand of science fiction fans came to know and love thanks to pulp novels. In the first issue, a government scientist receives a startling transmission of extraterrestrial origin; a college student makes a terrifying discovery; and a group of explorers encounter a shocking threat at the limits of our galaxy! The new title also boasts a cover by Thomas Boatwright (Cemetery Blues).

A must-have for fans of science-fiction or the pulp novels that the series draws its inspiration from, the 32-page, full-color M-Theory #1 is available for order now, so place yours today!

Code: Select all

Item Code Description	Price
JUL082223D	M-THEORY #1	$3.50
AUG082274D	M-THEORY #2	$3.50
SEP082266D	M-THEORY #3	$3.50

Nope.
From: http://dwightmacpherson.blogspot.com/20 ... -what.html

M-THEORY: Now What?

As you may or may not know, M-THEORY Issue 1 is now available at comic shops worldwide. The release of the first issue has caused many readers to contact me through e-mail and PM, asking when and where they can get issues 2 and 3.

Fear not.

M-THEORY Issues 2 and 3 will be available for purchase through Indyplanet in the coming months. I will post a new blog as each issue becomes available as well as sending out notes and bulletins through Facebook and Myspace--as well as posting a link through Twitter.

In addition to single issues, we will also be publishing an M-THEORY trade paperback that will be available through both Previews and Chimaera's store.

To everyone who purchased the first issue: a big huge planetary-sized thank you. To everyone who's contacted me to say how much they enjoyed the first issue and look forward to the rest of the mini-series... well, a big, huge planetary-sized thank you to you, too. With a cherry on top (?).

More news very soon. Promise!

Odd that Diamond posted an article promoting the entire series, complete with order codes for the second and third issues.

I imagine they're quicker to process solicitations than cancellations.

Dwight & Shadowline "parted ways" after M-Theory #1.

which is why I didn't order M-Theory #2 or #3. I just don't understand why Diamond is still trying to get orders for those issues if they aren't coming out. It sends very mixed signals.

With "parted ways" being a nice way of saying that Shadowline pulled the plug on M-Theory #2 & 3 when the orders were not high enough.

This will make me REALLY hesitant to buy any subsequent indie books from Shadowline. If they cannot even manage to put out a 3-issue series that has been solicited, I'm going to have a hard time justifying supporting new things from them.

Sorry to all Indie creators who make a deal with Shadowline, but that company has poisoned the well for me on how they handled the M-Theory thing.
