One of my favorite parts of the Back Issue Spotlight episodes is finding out what John and Bob have bought. They buy such a variety of things that it intrigues me. So here is my recent "Back Issue Spotlight"

Uncanny X-Men 139-300
I got all of these issues for $150. I normally don't like talking about prices, but this was an absolute steal for me. Less than a dollar an issue. All of the issues are F/VF/NM. The first issue is where Kitty officially joins the team all the way through 300. It's a good starting point in the series as Jean just died and Cyclops left the team in issue 138. And this pretty much picks up where the first omnibus leaves off.

Alpha Flight 1-29
John Byrne's entire run of Alpha Flight. I know his last issue was really 28, but 29 was the end of the Secret Wars 2 story line so I picked it up to complete the story. I've never read this, but have heard a lot of good things about it.

Pre-Unity Valiant
I picked up all 55 or so issues that Valiant comics produced before the 18 part mini series. I have heard extremely good things about these books because of Jim Shooter and Barry Windsor Smith.

This is a cool topic. I went on a silver age splurge recently and got:

Avengers 51,63 -- I'm always looking for key Avengers issues. esp. the early stuff. I really want to piece together the Ultron story at some point along with good Hawkeye/Clint Barton stories

Fantastic Four 32-35, 37, 78, 90-98, 100 -- It started off as a quest for FF 48-50, but now I think I'll end up going after the first 100 issues. The covers just blow me away on these.

Strange Tales 156, 159 -- silver age Nick Fury and Cap have intrigued me lately

House of Secrets 43, 117-118, 125, 128-130 -- I've been on a horror comic kick since the new run of House of Mystery started.

Doom Patrol 108, 115-117 -- I've never read any of the silver age stories and only recently got into DP.

X-Men 39 -- New Costumes.

I'm always after any Adventures into Fear 20-31 but I haven't managed to find them on any site like MyComicShop and they rarely come up on ebay...

Also I'm tempted to break my no spiderman to get Amazing Spider-Man #101 for the first appearance of Morbius

Well, the long-time-coming Back issue Spotlight #010 will go up this Friday, and there will be another insanely long batch of comics from me listed in it (including Amazing Spider-Man #1!!)

I'm not currently "on the Prowl" for Doom Patrol, but this would be a good series to put on my watch list when I complete a couple more of the series I'm currently working on.....

Found a couple of things at Half Price Books that I've been long searching for as well as some other cool stuff...

- The 9/11 issue of Amazing Spiderman in flawless condition.
- Superman Annual #11 (For the Man Who Has Everything).
- Several Romita Jr JMS Spidermans I did not have before.
- Four random color Bone trades. (Damn these are cheap!)
- Walking Dead TPB #4.

Total was about $50.

With the 4 that I got from the 90's run that finishes my series for me so I'm intrigued with getting into the earlier series but I haven't started on it yet.

Is that the same stuff that came out in Archives? I've been looking at the Doom Patrol archives but I haven't found them at the right price yet

I've been picking up a bunch of Turner books. As bad as it is, people have been trying to cash in on his Death. Some prices have been stupid but I've been able to get a bunch for .1-1.00

Due to some recent budget constraints, I have only purchased a couple back issues since Wizard World Chicago:

Flash #1/2. Got it for a buck, so I couldn't pass it up.

Infinity Inc #49 - 53. Got 'em to read before I attempt reading through Sandman.

Sandman TPBs vol. 1-4, original printings. Got 'em DIRT CHEAP from someone who bought the Absolutes and just wanted to clear off shelf space.

I've cut way back on back issue buying lately. I'm behind again on new comics and I've still got tons of back issues waiting to be read as it is. But the next time MyComicShop has a special that covers the Barry Allen Flash series I may pick up some more of those...

I too have been on very good behavior when it comes to back issues. When we decided to buy the new house, I went from having almost no compunctions about spending anything on comics I felt like, to realizing that I need to show SOME restraint if I want to heat and furnish the new digs.

I figure I'll still budget for special situations, like Wild Pig's 50% off sale or NYCC or San Diego (I'm hoping to attend next year), but won't be going crazy on MCS and eBay for awhile.

MyComicShop just hasn't had any inventory I'm particularly interested in of late either, which makes my restraint easier.

On the inevitable day when Bob or John let me know the great discounts are back (seems to happen every few months as they integrate a new collection or something), we'll see if I have any financial backbone or not.

Well, if MyComicShop does another sale on First, I'll pick up the rest of the Dreadstar run.

And now the Tom Katers is switching over from the JLA to the Flash, there is a decent chance I might start picking up some Flash back issues if I can find a good jumping in point. Tom is starting with Showcase #4 which is much further back than I'm willing to go.

So, there are a few things I might still pick up but I need to catch up on my reading before adding too much more to the ever growing backlog.

I've been hitting the 50-cent bins and found a long run of Tom Strong, primarily the issues that came after Alan Moore quit writing the series (approx. 2004). It featured authors like Brubaker and Vaughan, so it was very entertaining.

I also got DC Comics Famous First Edition - All Star Comics #3 (first JSA) and DC Comics The Bible, both from the 70s. The LCS sold them for cover price, $1.00, which was awesome.

Most of the 50-cent books are 90s titles, and I avoid those like the plague, but I keep checking the longboxes for hidden gems.

Captain America Comics #44 (recent EBay purchase)
Seller mispelled Captain America so it didn't get as many hits so I got it for a good price.

Only about 97 Golden Age Cap appearances/books to go!!!

Les Grandes Batailles Du Capitaine America (French-Canadian version of Captain America's Bicentennial Battles).
Only one more French-Canadian Cap book to complete the run.

A couple months ago, I picked up the entire run of Young Justice so I have to give that a read.

The New Avengers (Military Edition)

Comics of the Golden Age #4
Timely Comics magazine.

I'll be on the hunt for French, German, and Italian Captain America back issues in the next couple weeks too. I might like to fill in some holes in my 1960s/1970s Avengers run too.
