Am I the only that not wowed by this? I mean compared to the WonderCon John Romita AE, while nice, this is a little underwhelming.

The next AE I want is the Jack Davis one. Can't wait for that.

I wouldn't say I was wowed. I think I would trade a sketch for a slipcase.

The DD one is more pages, isn't it?

I am fine with the regular editions for the most part. Not ruling it out for future editions but these are fine books as they are. It seems like they have found a paying audience which bodes well for continuing them.

No additional pages, both are 200 pages.

Different cover, slipcase, autograph, limited to 250 copies of the limited edition.

I originally ordered this because I'm a big fan of Wildey (he's the guy responsible for much of the design work for the animated series Jonny Quest). I did not realize until I got it & opened it up (yesterday) that the entire book (except for 10 pages) is shot from Wildey's original art, just like an Artist's Edition.

While not as big as an Artist Edition, it's a HC about the size of a DC Absolute. It's really nice, Wildey tended to work in mixed media and after the 1st couple of stories, it's all color work, done in watercolor, colored pencil, oils, etc.

This book even has the last story Wildey ever worked on & it is partially complete (Wildey passed away while working on it), but it is fascinating to see the various stages of work on that story, with some panels complete, some in sketch form, some midway done, etc.

I also just got this Doug Wildey's Rio art book and I've read about half of it. The Western comic book art is really nice in this edition. I actually like this size a lot more for actually reading the comics then the larger artists editions. I think you can get the back issues for most of these comics for cheap online. It's worth it to me to get it for the art. I also love that the artist also did his own hand lettering. I liked the black and white and two color comics a lot better than the full coloring, but it's all amazing to look at.

Here's a link to a blog called Retro Randy with some preview art. The art looks even better in the actual book of course.

I got a "little" package in the mail from IDW yesterday. My Wally Wood edition finally arrived. Great stuff. But I was really wowed by the Daredevil edition. They even did some overlay pages for anything that was used on an acetate overlay for color/additional effects. I think this is a top contender for "Best Reprint Collection" of 2012.

It kind irritates me that IDW announces these con exclusives at the last minute before a convention instead of letting us know they will be doing a con variant when the original solicits go out.

That said, I could cancel my Amazon orders if I wanted to pick up the con exclusives if I wanted, but.......

Dave Stevens Covers & Stories: Cover Price $50 - Con exclusive $60
Not bad, I'd pay $10 for the con exclusive cover, but the Amazon price on my pre-order was $26.03, I don't think the con exclusive edition is worth $34 to me.

Parker: The Score: Cover Price $25 - Con exclusive $60
Hmmm, $35 for a variant dustjacket & a Darwyn Cooke signature plate. I'm not sure that's worth it. My Amazon price on my pre-order was $13.01, I don't think the con exclusive edition is worth $47 to me.

The Artist's Edition variants are not that bad since they're not mass produced & the regular editions are not available at heavily discounted prices.

There was a third super-exclusive Simonson Thor Artist Edition which came with a slipcase, with an original sketch on the front of the slipcase.

The latest word about the reprint of Alien The Illustrated Story is that there are a couple more versions coming out.

I read about this on the Marvel Masterworks message boards.

The important thing about the Alien Artist Edition is that that yes, Amazon will carry it and it it's probably the best discount you'll find around, however, it's not going to be the edition they first announced. The limited, signed edition will be available from Diamond and comics shops, but amazon is getting an unsigned, trade edition. So get your order in through DCBS or your LCS, etc. rather than amazon, if you want the signed, tipped in page.

Also, due to demand, there will be a version of the regular size, color reprint which has a facsimile cover to match the original edition.

Depending on the price via Diamond, I'll decide if it's worth the additional $$ for an autograph. Good thing about pre-ordering via Amazon is you can cancel the order any time before it ships if you change your mind.
