Thanks for sharing this!!! It's very interesting to hear directly what someone who's not an entrenched reader thinks.JasonNewcomb wrote:So I had my friend Clint read this book (he actually asked me if he could read it after I wrote this article: http://www.stashmycomics.com/blog/?p=2498). He is a lapsed reader and now wants to come back to DC with the digital initiative.
Here's what he said after reading the book. I'll try to quote as best I can.
"Very satisfying read".
"I don't know this Vic Stine guy so that's intriguing".
He went on about Lee's artwork and marveled at how detailed and dynamic it is. He laughed several times and noted how it was a clever concept to have the JL members not know each other well. He seemed to find it accessible.
We then immediately went on to discuss which of the New 52 books he might like to try. We narrowed it down. To JL, JLI, Batman, Action, Batman and possibly Flash.

Finally got my copy and read this thread. Overall I enjoyed the issue. I think it accomplished what it set out to do -- introduce us to a new world.
Regarding some earlier comments, I thought the dialog made sense for who was saying it. Referencing the Bale character was smart -- give new readers an inside joke to make them not feel like outsiders. Smart. Remind them that they *know* Batman, just not from comics.
As someone who does not have a huge DC background, I thought is was a good issue, and makes me interested in reading more. Mission accomplished.

I liked it a lot. My experience to the DCU is not as extensive as I'm sure many of you who post here is so my take is coming from that limited point of view.
Was it Shakespeare? No. It was a mainstream superhero team book with a good story and nice potential.
I noticed quite a few people were feeling the price was too high. Isn't $3.99 the base price for most of the Marvel titles? It seems this issue is getting judged on a different curve for some reason. I've breezed through plenty of $3.99 books from Marvel in the past too.
EDIT: Hi everyone, Bob here. I split off some notes spinning off the above statement (in blue) regarding pricing. I thought it would be good to have these separate & not buried in the JL #1 thread. Go here for the new thread:

Finally got the issue in my DCBS Box yesterday. I enjoyed it. Jim Lee showed he can still draw with the best of them, and I'm enjoying the characterization (or re-characterization) of the heroes I've read for decades now.
Really like the costumes. Wasn't sure at first but Supes new duds look really cool on him. Loved the dialogue as well. "I don't handle easy."
I like that we're getting Vic Stone before he becomes Cyborg (look people, that can't be a spoiler by this point!), and I hope we'll meet his pop in issue 2 or 3 (longtime Titans fans will remember his dad from the early days of NTT).
Bottom line: I'm in through at least this first arc, where they cover the formation of the team.

A show I like that does reviews for games, movies, televisions, etc The Totally Rad show did a review for Justice League 1. The hosts have varying familiarity with comics in general. The complaints and likes mirror many of the discussions going in this thread.
