LET'S TALK: Green Lantern (spoilers)

Post by BobBretall »

I'm starting a thread to talk about "current events" in the Green Lantern books:

* Green Lantern
* Green Lantern Corps
* Green Lantern: Emerald Warriors

DO NOT talk about upcoming solicits in here. This is to talk about stuff that has been published.

Feel free to discuss current story points.

STAY OUT IF YOU HAVE NOT READ THE LATEST ISSUES!

I think Green Lantern is one of DC best books published. It is so much fun and anything could happen. I was actually surprised with what Johns did with the Flash in this book. I also think Doug Mahnke is perfect for this book.

I am loving Emerald Warriors. More Bleez please! Question: Where have we seen Zardor before? He is a pretty powerful villain it would seem there is a back story there?

I thought the prologue to the War of Green Lanterns (GL #63) was awesome. There are so many good things about this book.

- Two really good artists were on this book. Ed Benes did the art for the flashbacks while Ardian Syaf was great with the present day scenes.

- Johns does what he does best and adds something new to continuity, yet doesn't re-write it. We always knew that the Manhunters went crazy. Now we know why. We also now know who discovered the Green Lantern light. The Guardians first symbol was the white lantern symbol, something that we did not know.

Really great first issue. I am looking forward to the whole crossover.

This issue got me re-invigorated on the GL franchise. I had been feeling kind of lackluster about it for the past 3-4 months (that whole Weaponeer storyline was mediocre to me). BUT, #63 has be jazzed up again, it was a great issue.

I agree that the Weaponeer storyline was ok, however, I enjoyed the Guy and the main GL series a lot over the past few months.

I think GL is still one of the top books period. GLC and Emerald Warriors are no slouches either. I like GLC a bit more than Warriors though. This past issue of GL #63 was awesome and really got me ready for the upcoming crossover. Johns is still one of the best. Mahnke has been killing it on art as well. The only downside is that a new reader needs to start from Rebirth on in my opinion.

I'm enjoying GL - I particularly like the great Doug Mahnke artwork. I was buying GLC for a while, but it really wasn't doing it for me. I'm hoping, though, that I'll still be able to follow the storyline when the WotGL storyline gets going.

First
'm starting a thread to talk about "current events" in the X-Men books:

* Green Lantern
* Green Lantern Corps
* Green Lantern: Emerald Warriors
wha huh?

I'm about a month behind on my stacks, but I'm still enjoying them. Doesn't seem quite as good right now but I think it's a bit "eye of the hurricane" a relative calm between Blackest Night and the next S-storm or War of the GLs. I'm more surprised the GL aren't more prominent in Brightest Day.

cut-and-paste error, as I was reusing the setup from another thread

A few post up, I said:

So, I felt the same way as you for the last few months, but my opinion changed with the current issue.

Catch up to current on the GL books and come back & let us know what you think now.

I just got back in to reading Green Lantern for the first time in many years (1980's). So far I'm enjoying the War of the Green Lanterns. I read GL #64 (Part 1) and GL Corps #58 (Part 2) last night and enjoyed it. I have GL Emerald Warriors #8 to read tonight. I had read the Prologue in GL#63 also. I like that it's a bat sh*t crazy universe spanning storyline. The art is real nice to look at. I appreciate they had a couple pages of "previously on" to bring me up to speed. I had some room in my budget when Marvel dropped their "Cosmic line." I don't think I'll be back to Marvel as long as the GL family keeps up this kind of quality.

What do you all regular GL readers think of this latest, dare I say, event, or is it a crossover? Or maybe it's just a storyline? Heck if I know but it's fun.

I just read the conclusion to War of the Green Lanterns. Wow, that was good. Even though ONE of the surprises was revealed already because of the solicitation of the new Green Lantern series, this issue was full of surprises.

I love the last line in the book.

The Guardian of the Universe should be renamed to the "Colossal Douchebags of the Universe".

They have been consistently portrayed as the biggest a-holes around. I'm having a hard time wanting to read about a Corps of Universal protectors who take their marching orders from these jerk-wads.

After reading the end of WotGL I'm not sure how excited I am for GL #1 anymore. I like the idea of xxxxx being a GL again, but I'm kinda bummed that xxxxxx is no longer a GL.

But I've been enjoying John's run on GL, so maybe I'll give it a chance.

edit: Bob took the spoiler out of the above (in case someone happens along who has not read the story yet).....
