ONE-SHOT recommendations
I support my LCS, which is different than my regular retail who does not have a store, by buying one-shot books a few times a year.
With the pile of unread comics I have, I figure that one-shots fit well into my schedule -- I was expecting short stories with beginning and a definite ending. But I just learned that this is not the case with Joss Whedon's Dollhouse Epitaphs one-shot that clearly has a cliffhanger ending. Are most one shots these days like this? Is this another marketing ploy? I mean, if it was a #0 or #1, I would definitely not even consider buying this floppy.
What are your most favorite one-shots that are really "one-shot"?

Dollhouse Epitaphs is an exception. Usually things solicited as one shot are that, not misnamed number 0's like that was. I was surprised like you, except for me it was a pleasent surprise.

Hi Trev, I'm referring to floppies that doesn't have "to be continued stories" I don't mind if it's back issues or new as long as they're readily available off the rack (so I guess mostly new). I like DC/Vertigo books mostly. I'll keep in mind the DCU holiday specials ... thanks for the tip.Trev wrote:Are you just wanting one shots or also 'one and done' stories. Probably my favorite one shots every year are the dcu holiday specials - Halloween and Christmas.
Do you want new or back issues? What kind of books do you regularly buy?

Danscomics, good to hear I'm not the only one surprised.
Bob, DC 80-page Giants and DC's 100 page sounds like something I might enjoy, though I think they'll be harder to find ... but I'm keeping it in mind as I'm going to fan expo this year ... so I might easily stumble upon one.
comicm, will definitely ask my retailer if he has the Joe Hill books.
Thanks for the tip everyone. Though I felt 'misled' by Dollhouse Epitaphs "one-shot"... I won't let it discourage me from further buying more one-shots in the future

While there were old versions of these, there are also recent ones that should not be too hard to find:JC wrote: Bob, DC 80-page Giants and DC's 100 page sounds like something I might enjoy, though I think they'll be harder to find ... but I'm keeping it in mind as I'm going to fan expo this year ... so I might easily stumble upon one.
go here:

type "80 Page" in the Title Search Box and hit the Search button
Everything but the 1st title returned should not be that hard to find.

The first issue of the mini was solicited in the May Previews. It's currently scheduled to be released on July 27th.comicm wrote:The Cape by Joe Hill from IDW (although it is set up for a mini)
I have a few of the silver age ones in my store (my main site, not my CCL one). I wouldn't be surprised if a quick search of shopping.google.com didn't turn up other stores with some too.JC wrote:Bob, DC 80-page Giants and DC's 100 page sounds like something I might enjoy, though I think they'll be harder to find ... but I'm keeping it in mind as I'm going to fan expo this year ... so I might easily stumble upon one.
