DCBS is provoking me even further into my "anti-$3.99" sentiment by giving an extra discount on all the $2.99 books from the "majors" and NOT on the $3.99 books.....

I jumped back onto Incredible Hulks because it went down to $2.99, and back onto Hulk since even though it's $3.99, it's 40 pages. Got back on Superman, too, since JMS bailed on the book.

My list got bumped in $ value (as usual) by statues & those damned Eaglemoss figures I love so much (but they cost me $88.50 this month, after discount, all by themselves).

If I take out the "big ticket items" I'm sitting around $340. Add them in and it's ~$700

This month starts my no more big-Two single-issues. Really, I wasn't getting that much anyhow, so I don't think they'll even notice.

What I'm getting so far:

I have gone a bit mad on Trades recently so I will probably only be getting the Judge Dredd Case Files volume 2. My "to read" pile is huge.

I noticed that the discounts for Dark Horse and IDW changed this month. Dark Horse was 43% but now is either 40% or 42% (about 3-10 cent difference). IDW was 40% but is now 35% (about 20 cent difference). This isn't a noticeable difference on my total but I notice it because I track my orders with respect to publisher.

Also the discount for 2000 AD dropped from 25% to 20% last month. I assume these slight changes are to offset the extra discount for 2.99 books.

Last month I dropped one of my two remaining Marvel comics due to a 33% price hike. I hesitated because it is really good but I believe Litmus tests should be used especially when dealing two faced entities. (And this month that comic's price didn't drop so I'm rather happy having dropped it.)

This month's order is slightly more than I had planned. There are several manga premiering that look interesting and a few things I'm getting in apparently star-crossed trades.

Hey U.H.,

The discounts on IDW have always been at 35%, with the exception of when we've run some special discounts one month or another.

In the case of Dark Horse, you'll see discounts that range from 25-42% off and that is just predicated on our cost for the item in question. The lower our cost is on an item, the greater the discount that we are able to pass on to you.

In any given instance our discount structure is based on the price that we are purchasing the books for while factoring in our costs. The only exception to that is when we run a special discount where we increase the discount to help generate interest in a title or line, in that case we are just bumping up the discount on our end to help customers.

In an instance like the past couple of months with the 45% discount on $2.99 titles, you wouldn't see a change in the baseline discount. Rather you would see fewer 75% discounts, etc.

I gave my retailer a list of DC and Marvel figures. The Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman are available .. but the Marvel figures are all back-order so I didn't place the order yet. When I get the DC figures, I'll decide whether I want to purchase more. I probably need a glass case with lock for the figures as young kids (friends' kids and nieces) love to hang around the comic room and I'm worried about the lead content.

Are you going to try to get some "back issue" ones or just ones that appeal to you moving forward?

If you're ever in NYC or London, check out Forbidden Planet. I was at one near the west end in London a couple of years ago and they had an amazing 'back issue' selection of these figures. The most I've ever seen. And everything at standard retail, which was cool.
