Re: So Long Bob and Thanks a Million

I too wanted to thank Bob for a LOT of years (and countless hours) of great entertainment. It was more than a little awkward to hear the Episode 300 "sign off"...I couldn't fathom doing the show with someone for all these years and no giving him a more heartfelt and meaningful sign off, bu...

Returnability is a huge deal, and shows yet again that this was not some reactionary hair brained move of desperation, but a careful constructed bold plan. As to Bob and my disagreement on this digital angle, I said this on 11OC this week and I'll say it here too, a year from September, DC will be s...

The pricing is pretty much exactly as I thought it would be. Parity at "day and date" to appease LCS owners and maintain the allure of paying for the timeliness of serialized entertainment, and then quickly down to a price that they believe will attract a broader audience.

I don't agree with this at all Bob. I think they need to make day and date $2.99, same as the print cover price, so as not to completely undermine their direct market retailers at the outset. Over the course of a month or two after release, drop the price down to $1.99 or $0.99 and then we're off t...

The Day & Date Digital plan is bold, but it will only succeed if they stop charging print prices for digital comics. I, for one, refuse to pay $2.99 - $3.99 for a license to a digital file when I can pay the same price for something that I OWN. Heck, I refuse to pay $3.99 for a print comic. Abs...

I'm in complete agreement that it's a baffling decision. When the purpose of .1 issues aren't even clear to hardcore fans, how will they help new readers try books? Meanwhile so far, from what I've gathered of those already in the can (but not necessarily on the shelves yet), they're frequently bein...

Re: Weekly Comics Spotlight 181

See, that's where I'm at and why I was scratching my head as you both were blaming Marvel powers-that-be and absolving Jon and Epting of any role here. To my mind though, reading Hickman's latest interview, he intended for this to be an unquestioned death at the hands of BILLIONS of Annihilation ho...

Re: Weekly Comics Spotlight 181

Hey guys, Listening to the ep and I'm really confused about your take on FF. You both take issue with the way the "death" was portrayed and both convince yourselves that the use of the term "death" was due to the Marvel PR machine and not Hickmans choice. That's great and all, e...

But that's not a new thing to comics. Your issue with it is more about your personal tastes and expectations evolving over time than something the publishers are doing as a gimmick. Well my expectations evolving are due to the gimmicks though. Because this gimmick has been employed in the past it i...

I think death issues would be more respected if they actually kept a major character dead. I feel a little insulted when they keep telling me "No for real, THIS time we meant it" and yet they constantly come back. I mean, I just ran across an older comic with an ad about a funeral for Sus...

Re: Why so serious? (re Mayo Report)

There will always be comic books for us to enjoy. Personally, I'm not convinced of that there will always be new comic books being published for us to enjoy. There may not be new Marvel and Dc superhero comics for us to read, but there will be comic (defined as a marriage of sequential images paire...

Listening to this episode reminded me of how diverse not only this medium is, but the tastes of those who consume it. Interesting stuff guys. Congrats on another rock solidly consistent year.

Got four volumes of 20th Century Boys, the Doonesbury Retrospective, the G.I. Joe complete cartoon series box set, two of my recent pieces of art framed and matted, a bunch of video games, a Blu-Ray player and a boatload of Blu Ray movies.
